Fresh Turmeric and Ginger Collagen Wellness Shots
I cannot remember for the life of me the podcast episode I was listening to the other day when I had this epiphany, but I learned that I’m a HAPPY emotional eater.
LOL, wut? Isn’t it normal to shove your face when you’re sad and depressed and stressed? I honestly don’t. Okay sometimes, I’ll treat myself when it’s been a long day, but food isn’t a coping mechanism for me.
I kind of realized this the other week when I told J I wanted ice cream, but he had a sportsmen’s club meeting that night. “Why don’t you just go and get some without me then, even though I can’t go” he said. That literally has no appeal to me. It isn’t only the ice cream or food that I crave. It’s the giggling, hand holding, watching him order rainbow sprinkles on everything, and feeling like a rebel on a week night for grabbing a sweet treat.
It’s damn near impossible for me not to order dessert in a restaurant if someone wants to indulge with me. Or say no to “one more drink” on vacation because, it’s the last night, of course. Which is why I probably tend to overindulge sometimes, and totally run myself down. It’s something about myself that I love (because sometimes, I think I’m kinda fun), but it also makes me inwardly groan.
Why – because I really know how to push myself past my breaking point and make myself sick. As soon as I stepped onto US soil returning from Mexico, I felt my throat hurting. All of that “let’s wake up early and workout so we can relax all day, drink by the beach, eat a huge dinner, stay out for just 10 more minutes, alright a LITTLE bit of tequila, okay so what it’s late – we can sleep on the beach” caught up to me. Oh, Allie.
I was determined not to let it turn to full on sickness. So, I turned to my kitchen. And I whipped up this little wellness shot here, and let me tell you – I’m sure it hasn’t hindered my healing process, that’s for sure. I sit here, 5 days later, feeling like myself again. Ha!
Let’s get to it!

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
If you’re using a blender and nut milk bags like me – Peel your turmeric and ginger and cut the pieces into chunks. Add that with your lemon (remember to leave the skin ON) into a blender. Add the honey, collagen (if you so choose), and water. Blend for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
Place the nut milk bag over a large bowl and pour the juice into the bowl. Grab the bag and wring out all of the excess liquid. Set the bag, with the pulp, aside. Pour the wellness juice into small shot glasses, or if you like the flavor as I do, sip on it in 4 – 6 oz. quantities, or so.

That’s so funny. I didn’t know this was a thing but I am DEFINITELY a happy emotional eater too. I bake for others and only want to indulge or have an extra drink if my husband or friends are too! Guess that makes me a follower…oh well. At least I’m in good company with you 😉
can I use turmeric? what is the side effect if I use turmeric powder?
Yes you can, but it will alter taste and texture. I’m not a medical professional so I can’t speak to any side effects, but can’t think of any.
Ok, I will try . i hope i will not die. Kidding! However, I really like your article. keep it up. Thanks a lot, Miss AK.
I tried it once before but without turmeric now I find the same with a different recipe I will try this too. Thanks for sharing.
Turmeric and ginger are both healthy ingredients known for their anti inflammatory and digestive properties. But to club them together in a drink could not be palatable mix but its good that you added lemon and honey, great taste enhancers.
I am working towards a holistic diet plan to increase my energy levels. This drink could be that magic potion with so many healthy ingredients in it.
