An Irish Mule is simply a twist on the famous Moscow Mule – it uses whiskey instead of vodka and is full of refreshing lime-ginger flavor.
There are a few things to know about me. 1) I can get down with a whiskey cocktail. In college, my standard drink to order while out galavanting around the town with my gal pals was a J&G (Jameson whiskey + ginger). Momma didn’t raise no fool.
2) I have an odd amount of pride around the fact that my family ran a bar called The Jungle in Manayunk, PA (just outside of Philadelphia) that turned into a speakeasy during prohibition.
3) I’m Irish. Go figure! Being the good Irish girl that I am, I married a good Irish boy & we both share a love of St. Patrick’s Day…and Irish whiskey. So I decided to make a cocktail to celebrate.
So, how do we make a killer Irish Mule
An Irish Mule is just a spin on the classic Moscow Mule cocktail (ginger beer + vodka + lime), that has whiskey in it. I like to use an Irish whiskey lime Jameson, but anything will really do.
When J and I make mules, we like to use Rose’s Lime Juice. It’s lime juice syrup that you can snag in the bar mixer/soda aisle of your grocery store. It acts as a tart simple syrup and is a serious flavor-adding time hack.
For interest, I decided to muddle some fresh rosemary into this cocktail, but this is completely option. I just have these moments when I try to be fancier than I really am (see points 1,2 &3 above).
