A Spicy Jalapeno Paloma made with fresh grapefruit, jalapenos, agave and of course…tequila. All topped off with grapefruit sparkling water!
I love a good margarita as much as anyone, but I’ll admit…my hubby is pretty picky in that department. He isn’t much of a tequila guy, so it’s got to be perfect. Super frozen, super smooth, not too sweet, and he likes Grand Marnier in there with tequila. Phew. I’m legit ready for a mindless Netflix binge after thinking about making that. And cleaning the blender. #diva
I recently introduced him to the Paloma cocktail on our honeymoon, and this is much more my speed at the end of the day with how life has been lately. You just squeeze some grapefruit and lime, dump it into a shaker with the tequila and agave and muddle with a little jalapeno for spice before shaking and topping with grapefruit sparkling water/soda or club soda. A LOT less cleanup than the blender.
It’s the perfect drink to make for a few friends who ain’t afraid of a little spice at the end of the day. If you’re having a P-A-A-R-T-A-A-Y or going to one, it’s the solution. Trust me. I don’t steer people wrong where food and booze is involved.
Speaking of more food and booze this recipe is actually one that I’ve done for a Summer BBQ series roundup with a few of my blogging friends! Check out these bomb recipes for your next get tahhhgether.

Spicy Jalapeno Paloma
A Spicy Jalapeno Paloma made with fresh grapefruit, jalapenos, agave and of course…tequila. All topped off with grapefruit sparkling water!
- Prep Time: 5 minutes
- Total Time: 5 minutes
- Yield: 1 1x
Ingredients
- 4 oz freshly squeezed grapefruit juice (about 1 large grapefruit)
- 1.5 oz tequila (about a shot)
- 1 Tbsp. Agave nectar
- Juice of ½ lime
- 2 jalapeno slices
- 4 oz. (ish) grapefruit sparkling water (I love LaCroix) or club soda
Instructions
- Muddle the grapefruit juice, agave, lime juice, jalapeno, and tequila together in the bottom of a shaker.
- Add a few ice cubes and shake.
- Pour into a glass with ice, and top with grapefruit sparkling water or club soda. Give it a final mix and serve.
Notes
You may need to adjust the amount of agave, based on the sweetness of the grapefruit. My grapefruit was pretty sweet, so you can always stir in more agave to sweeten if needed.
