Spicy Lynchburg Limeade

Spicy Whiskey Lynchburg Limeade

This post has been sponsored by Powell & Mahoney Craft Cocktail Mixers. As always, all thoughts and opinions remain my own. Thank you for supporting the growth of Miss Allie’s Kitchen!

Before we slip (or sip) into today’s recipe I want to get one little, teeny, tiny detail straight…I am VERY Irish. So, St. Patrick’s Day is a big deal, and has become even more so since I met J.

Lynchburg Limeade

To put things into perspective for you, my father, a good Irishmen born into a good Irish family of a mere 12 children, still eats Lucky Charms (with the little, lucky Leprechaun) every Saturday morning before his favorite soccer team, Liverpool, plays. He may or may not have tried to persuade all of us to buy him plaid, golf knickers for Christmas one year. I kid you not (SORRY DAD!).  J’s family is so into St. Patty’s that his Mom preps corned beef and cabbage, Shepherd’s pie, and Irish soda bread the entire week before the holiday. It’s one of my favorite meals.

Now that we’ve got all of this straight, we’re going to dive into one of the more popular aspects of St. Patrick’s Day…THE COCKTAILS.

Hot Pepper Limeade

In my day, I may have spent a St. Patty’s or two perched on a bar stool, looking down into a neon green beverage, wondering “what in the world actually turned it that shade, and are my teeth going to be permanently stained green after 3 sips of this sugar laden sucker?”.

St. Patrick's Day Limeade

In recent years, I tend to stay away from artificial & sugar infused cocktails when I decide to indulge. I’ll also admit, as much as I love playing around in the kitchen, I’m not one to labor over crafting a beverage. I prefer to mix a few flavors together, pour over ice and go.  This tends to put me in a pickle when I want something fun & festive.

Limeade with Whiskey

Hot Pepper Cocktail

In this recipe, I’m using a Powell & Mahoney Craft Cocktail Mixer because I am absolutely in love with the simple & natural ingredients. If I WERE going to invest the time into creating a cocktail mixer, my creations would probably resemble their recipes, but THANKFULLY, they’ve done all of the work for me. We’ll actually be mixing their Jalapeño Margarita with Whiskey to make our own (and arguably more delicious) version of Lynchburg Limeade. Traditional Lynchburg Lemonade, mixes whiskey and lemonade but I thought it would be fun to give it an Irish Kiss.  Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Let’s get to it!

Jalapeno Limeade

WHAT YOU’LL NEED (measurements below):

Whiskey

Triple sec

Lime juice

Jalapeno slices

Powell & Mahoney Jalapeno Margarita Mix

Tonic water

Lime wedge (for garnish)

Ice

Lynchburg Limeade

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Add whiskey, triple sec, lime juice, 2-3 jalapeno slices, and Powell & Mahoney Jalapeno Margarita Mix into a cocktail shaker. Be sure to muddle well, breaking up the jalapeno slices, releasing the heat from within, which gives you that little bit of extra spice. If you prefer, you can always add less or omit the jalapenos if you like less heat.

Limade with Whiskey & Spice

Add ice to cocktail shaker and shake vigorously until the cocktail is chilled. Fill a glass with ice, pour the limeade mixture into the glass and top with tonic water. Give it a good stir and add the lime wedge and a few jalapeno slices! Cheers!
